The Portneuf Greenway Foundation is pleased to announce that paving of the new “Idaho Central Credit Union Connecting Communities Trail” from Pocatello Creek Road to the Bannock County Events Center (Fairgrounds) is nearly complete and asks the public to wait to use the trail until the Idaho Transportation Department fences the trail and approves access.
The Connecting Communities Trail has been built in conjunction with the I-15/I-86 Wye project will be open to the public once a fence has been installed. The fence will separate Greenway users from Interstate 15 traffic for their safety and for the safety of motorists and workers.
“We know that the community has been eagerly anticipating this trail and we know that the fresh pavement is inviting, but it is critically important that the public wait to use the trail until there is a fence in place,” said Dan Harelson, president of the Portneuf Greenway Foundation Board of Directors.
The Idaho Transportation Department expects fencing to be completed within three to four weeks and the public will be able to safely access the trail. The trail was built with the support of the Idaho Transportation Department, Idaho Central Credit Union and many other community partners.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held for both the Idaho Central Credit Union Connecting Communities Trail and the Portneuf Health Trust Outback Trail which will extend south from Pocatello Creek Road to the Monte Vista Overpass. The Outback Trail is being built by the City of Pocatello with support from the Portneuf Health Trust and it will be completed in September.
